Our Story
Spoon Chic was created about 15 years ago and purely by accident. I have always had a crafty bent, but discovered a spoon bracelet online while shopping. It was beautiful, but plain and I wasn't really a plain kind of a girl. So, I decided I would teach myself to create these in order to make them a bit more "me." I started creating at my kitchen table on weekends and after dinner and haven't stopped since. Fortunately for my family, I have transitioned to a dedicated studio space. This experience fueled my passion for creating with silverware. Since then it has been my joy, my passion and my stress relief all wrapped up in one. And I love challenging myself with new techniques, ideas and materials. I also like to give new life to antique brooches, earrings and other forgotten jewelry by incorporating them into my own pieces.
One thing that doesn't change in the jewelry I make is the silverware. I primarily use vintage silver plated silverware, but occasionally will use a vintage stainless piece if the pattern is special. I truly love all of the beautiful silver patterns and knowing that they were present in some of people's best memories - holiday dinners, weddings, birthdays, etc. Unfortunately, many of these pieces are being lost over time or as family members pass away. Creating with silverware brings these pieces back to life and forges new connections for family members.
A few years ago, I had a woman ask me to use her mother's silverware to create bracelets for her daughter's wedding as a surprise. I cannot express the joy of hearing the bride say that knowing she had a part of her grandmother around her wrist felt as though her grandmother was there holding her hand during her wedding. It's a special memory of her special day and an heirloom she can pass on to her daughter when she marries one day. At the end of the day, it's all about the people we meet, the connections that are created and the impact that a unique piece has on a person's life.
About 6 years ago, my better half joined me in this endeavor and he has been my muscle, my inspiration, my best salesperson and my biggest source of encouragement to pursue this journey. We hope you find that special piece from our collection or trust us to customize something from your family's own silverware.
